"School" from the series Encounters
This series depicts desolate, uncanny and at times surreal spaces encountered during my walks in the harsh regional winters of rural Minnesota in 2019. A disenfranchised emptiness lurks between the city and the wilderness, in a desert of northern winter. Perhaps this desolation is a visual metaphor for the impacts of climate change. True wilderness—places untouched by mankind—no longer exist. The impact of our species affects all others. Yet we are a fragile, vulnerable part of a resilient natural system, where other life and the land will outlast us.
